At Universal Safety Products (USP), we believe true safety extends beyond the workplace, it starts with empowered communities.

Our Community Upliftment Program delivers real, lasting impact through enterprise development, youth empowerment, and on-site safety mask education in partnership with mining and industrial clients.

 

What We Offer

Our fully supported, on-site upliftment service includes:

  • Identifying and mentoring youth and female-owned local businesses.

  • Providing structured training on mask distribution and awareness.

  • Equipping local teams with tools to promote respiratory safety.

  • Driving environmental responsibility through the U-MASK™ U-BIN initiative.

  • Creating jobs and building long-term value aligned to mine and site-specific safety goals.

 

U-MASK™ U-BIN: Cleaner, Safer, Smarter

A core feature of the program is the U-MASK™ U-BIN initiative, our smart and sustainable approach to managing disposable mask waste.

We provide:

  • Dedicated mask disposal bins at strategic site locations.

  • Trained local teams to manage bin usage and drive employee engagement.

  • Signage and education materials to reinforce safe disposal practices.

  • Employee recognition and reward programs, like lucky draws for responsible use.

These bins reduce contamination, improve hygiene, and promote ownership of safety culture on-site, while giving local youth real work opportunities.

Why It Matters

South Africa continues to face serious socioeconomic challenges, youth unemployment, inequality, and limited access to skills development. Our program responds directly by:

  • Supporting local entrepreneurs to become official USP product distributors.

  • Providing hands-on training in PPE knowledge, customer service, and supply.

  • Building a culture of safety, health, and environmental accountability.

  • Ensuring long-term sustainability through support, mentorship, and monitoring.

Whether it’s through training, waste management, or community engagement, USP helps safety create opportunity.

 

Real Impact in Action

In 2024, we partnered with a local youth- and female-owned business near Kopanang Gold Mining Company.

With support from the USP team, the business began distributing U-MASK™ products directly to mine employees, starting with a 3:45 AM shift delivery on day one.

This project created real jobs, delivered real safety improvements, and demonstrated the power of partnership.

And it's just one of many to come.
